Complex Adaptive Learning
In today’s complex and rapidly changing environment, the inter-action between information, knowledge and learning matters more than ever. In the Complexity Space, “adaptive learning” is an essential business strategy. When the goal is to shift patterns of behavior and encourage emerging “how” outcomes, the focus is on addressing the learning process itself rather than on any specific subject being taught. This point of view is that what is “learned” is infinitely more complex than what is “taught.”
Complex Adaptive Learning embodies our work in organizational “learning and knowledge management”. We focus on the patterns of connections, relationships and exchanges between individuals, teams, functions, customers, vendors, competitors etc. as a complex process – one governed by different principles than are typically associated with traditional information gathering and knowledge transfers.
Consider the following question – How do you fix a problem with Complex Adaptive Learning?
Complex Adaptive Learning is not about finding a fix. However, many organizations approach their training and development programs as fixes for their mounting business challenges. For most organizations, the time and resources available to find and implement a program that results in a permanent fix is not a viable business strategy in a readily changing and complex business environment.
We believe that permanent fixes are a myth. We also believe that organizations address productivity, profitability and employee development by gathering, integrating and acting on the “fix that fits” now.
